This Sunday, November 20th, took place the second best Beaune Wine Auction with 8.4 million euros raised.
The charity barrel was sold for €200,000 for the ARC (Cancer Research Association) and the Foundation “Cœur et Recherches”.
On May 23rd, 2016, a jewel joined the private collection of the Domaine: a bottle of Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 1904 ! A wine aged by Joseph Faiveley but not coming from our own vineyards at that time.
Here is an opportunity to trace the history of this Grand Cru ...
Born in the mid-nineteenth century, François Faiveley - 3rd generation of the family Faiveley- acquired beautiful "climats". In 1911, he acquired 0.64 hectares in one of the most symbolic appellations of Burgundy: the Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru.
Today, the Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru represents 50 hectares of vineyards shared between 82 owners. An emblematic castle - where is established the Brotherhood of the Chevaliers du Tastevin - stands on that vineyard. By visiting it, the whole history of the Burgundy wine region is traced, from the Cistercian monks to today.... This mythical Grand Cru represents the complexity of Burgundy.
At the Domaine, we have the chance to own 1ha27 divided into 3 plots (2 parcels easily spotted with gates and 1 parcel of old vines in the middle of the Clos, near by the Castle).
Depending on the vintage, we harvest, vinify and age together or separately these three plots. A systematic blending is carried out before bottling to produce a single cuvée of Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru.
We produce a Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru right and deep. An esthete wine !
The Hospices de Nuits marked the arrival of spring. Eve Faiveley and Jérôme Flous, Chief Winemaker, took part in the auction on the 20th of March 2016 in the cellars of the Clos de Vougeot chateau.
A new sales record was set under the chairmanship of Frédéric Diefenthal and Thierry Becarro: the total amount raised at the auction was over 1 300 000 euros and the proceeds will be donated to the Hôpital de Nuits and the "Un pas vers la vie" association.
New record of more than 11 million euros !
The 155th Hospices de Beaune wine auction broke a new record on Sunday, reaching a total of over €11 million collected, including €480,000 for the "Pièce des Présidents“, 228 litres of Corton Renardes Grand Cru 2015. In view of the news, the receipts of this purchase made by an anonymous French woman will be dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris last Friday, November 13th, in addition to two associations : the Cu...rie Institute represented by Claire Chazal and the French stroke Foundation represented by Christophe Lambert. The wine auction, which attracts buyers from all around the world, began with a minute of silence. The audience then sang the French anthem “Marseillaise”. This year 575 barrels of 48 different cuvees - 33 reds and 15 whites- were auctioned.
The harvests began this year on Wednesday the 2nd of September with the Ladoix, Meursault 1er Cru ”Charmes" and "Blagny" in the Côte de Beaune, the Rully as well as the Mercurey "Les Mauvarennes" in the Côte Chalonnaise. Pinot Noir followed on from Chardonnay the next day in the Côte de Beaune with the Beaune 1er Cru "Clos de l’Ecu" Monopole. On Monday the 7th of September, all of the Chardonnays were harvested and we started on the Côte de Nuits with the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Porêts". As from the 8th of September, we harvested our Côte de Nuits Grands Crus at optimum ripeness levels. The harvests came to an end on the 11th of September with the Marsannay and the Gevrey-Chambertin.
This will without a doubt, after the 1995 and 2005 vintages, be another outstanding vintage for Burgundy!
You must have already heard the news… on the 4th of July 2015, the World Heritage Committee decided to list the 1247 Burgundian ‘Climats’ as a "Unesco World Heritage Site”. Domaine Faiveley, one of its founding patrons, is very proud of this decision. We would like to say a big thank you to the association "Les Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne" for their dedication and commitment over the last 8 years and we would also like to thank you for having supported this accomplishment. This listing is a great acknowledgement for our terroir and our expertise!
Adriana Karembeu and Michel Drucker will chair the 154th charity auction at the Hospices de Beaune which will take place on 16th November.
Every year the event is organised by the famous auction house Christie's dedicated to the Hospices de Beaune. The "Cuvée des Présidents" (lot of 228 litres) of Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru will be sold at the auction with the profits going to two associations: "Toutes à l'Ecole" which finances education for young girls in Cambodia and "Fondation Imagine", a research organisation specialising in genetic disorders. Two ambassadors will attend the auction: judoka Teddy Riner and journalist Tina Kieffer.
In total, 534 lots of 47 different wines (33 red and 14 white) will be up for auction. In 2013, 443 lots were available and generated a record total of 6.3 million euros.
July 30th 2014 : Erwan Faiveley is proud to announce the purchase of Domaine Billaud-Simon, Chablis, France. Situated in the heart of the village since 1815, Billaud-Simon is one of the few original domains in the appellation. The Domaine is spread over 20 hectares in the best terroirs, amongst them, four Grand Crus: Les Clos, Les Preuses, Vaudesir and Les Blanchots, and four Premiers Crus: Montée de Tonnerre, Mont-de-Milieu, Fourchaume and Vaillons.
The seventh edition of Musique & Vin at Clos Vougeot ended on Sunday, 29th, June with an exceptional charity auction for young talents, showing that the success of this festival is growing year after year. Once again, the unwavering support of musicians and partner domains - including Domaine Faiveley - allowed to gather all the ingredients for this remarkable event to be a success.
2010 Domaine Faiveley - Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru: A ripe and beguilingly fresh nose offers up notes of cherry, plum, anise and raspberry liqueur. There is excellent mid-palate concentration to the intense but seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with structure-buffering dry extract before terminating in a balanced, complex and impressively persistent finish. While the mouth feel is quite silky make no mistake about the potential longevity here as this will still need all of 15 years to realize its full potential. 93/2025+
The 53rd Hospices de Nuits’ charity wine auction will be held on March 16th.

The barrel of the President - Meursault 1er Cru-Genevrières - was awarded € 131,000. For the first time, this is a Chinese businesswoman who won this piece of charity, sold under the hammer of the actress Clotilde Courau for associations "Petits Princes" and "Papillons Blancs".
