Domaine Faiveley: Great Burgundy wines in Nuits-Saint-Georges since 1825

Volnay

Volnay is situated to the south of Pommard, between two hills which protect from the wind. The village is located on one of the highest points of the Côte de Beaune, hence the saying, "En dépit de Pommard et Meursault, c’est toujours Volnay le plus haut". (Regardless of Pommard and Meursault, Volnay is the highest and always so).

The hand-picked harvest is vinified by producers we are in partnership with. Our Oenologist tastes each cuvée and only chooses the best wines from trusted producers.
The wine is then matured in oak barrels for 14 to 16 months, in nineteenth century vaulted cellars which provide ideal conditions for raising wines. The proportion of new oak, which is susceptible to variations according to the vintage, represents on average one third of the cuvée. The barrels come from high-quality barrel makers and have been rigorously selected for their fine grain and light toast.

Our Tasting Notes:

A clear and brilliant bright red colour with slight shades of purple. Very pleasant on the nose. This wine gives off a red berry scent mixed with spicy and smoky notes.
We find finesse on the palate. After a round and supple attack, it has beautiful concentration and leaves a light tannic imprint.

This 2007 vintage  gives us a round and supple Volnay. The nose is very pleasant with fruity black cherry, strawberry and grilled coffee aromas. This wine is well balanced, very sweet, almost sugary on the palate. It's a wine which is already nice to drink and very fruity.

This  Volnay 2006 has a clear, brilliant, bright red colour with streaks of violet. Its nose is pleasant - a mixture of fresh fruit and spices like pepper and bay leaf. It is round and supple on the palate with a nice tannic stamp to it.
